Diamond Ranch Eliminated In Playoffs
Panthers get shut out in 48-0 loss in second round game against Muir.
Head Coach Roddy Layton and his Diamond Ranch team were favorites coming into the second round CIF-Southern Section Southeast Division game against Muir High School, as many were looking forward to the possible semi-finals match-up against Los Altos. But that wouldn't happen as the Panthers and the Conquerors both lost their games Friday night.
The Muir Mustangs (8-4) opened the game with the ball at their own 26-yard line. Muir’s first play was a pass that was incomplete, but a pass interference penalty against the Panthers (6-6) moved the Mustangs to their own 41-yard line.
On the very next play, Muir quarterback Josh Washington connected on a long 59-yard pass to wide receiver Tarien Owens for the touchdown, and the Mustangs were off to a 7-0 lead early in the first quarter.

Still in the second quarter, with just 39.5 seconds left in the half, Diamond Ranch looked like it was going to score. Panthers’ quarterback Xavier Beltran had his pass intercepted by the Mustangs’ Kevon Seymour and returned the ball 95-yards for the touchdown.
The Mustangs would miss the point after attempt and go into halftime leading the Panthers 16-0.
In the third quarter, the Mustangs’ offense continued to dominate, as Seymour would return a Diamond Ranch punt 75-yards for the touchdown and the Mustangs opened the lead 23-0 with 8:38 remaining in the third quarter.
Muir added more points to the scoreboard on a three-yard touchdown run from running back Travonta Herod. This would give the Mustangs a 30-0 lead in the third quarter.
The Mustangs would score 12 more points by the end of the third quarter and score eight more points in the fourth. Muir would go on to win the game 48-0.
Muir will now move into the semi-finals and face La Serna next week. La Serna defeated Los Altos in a close 42-38 victory.
