Diamond Ranch's Cherry and Fischer Post Big Marks At CIF Track Finals
The pair from Diamond Ranch both qualify for next week's CIF Masters Track and Field meet.
They came, they saw, they advanced another week.
Diamond Ranch High senior Marquise Cherry and junior Andrew Fischer had a pair of standout performances at Saturday's CIF-Southern Section Championships at Cerritos College.
Cherry won the Division 3 long jump (22 feet, 07.75 inches), finishing with the fourth-best jump among four divisions.

Fischer was just as impressive, finishing second to Agoura High School super hurdler Jonathan Cabral in the 300-meter hurdles. His 37.95 second run was the fifth-best of the day and gave Fischer plenty reason to be proud.
"I wasn't really focused on first place, I would have just tired myself out going for it," said Fischer, who fell just short of his season-best time of 37.79 during April's Mt. Sac Relays. "I just wanted to make sure I had a good time. It's a difficult race. But I was pretty confident with how I performed."

The top nine finishers (top 12 in the 800, 1.600, 3.200 and field events) from Saturday advanced to the two-day CIF Masters Meet that begins on Friday. The top five from Masters and those that reach qualifying marks, advance to the CIF State Meet on June 3 and 4 in Clovis.
Vista Murrieta won the Division 1 team championship for the boys with Loyola (Division 2), Sherman Oaks Notre Dame (3) and Serra (4) also claiming titles.
Long Beach Poly (1), Mater Dei (2), Harvard Westlake (3) and Serra (4) were the girls champions.
Diamond Bar High School had one competitor in Saturday's championships as senior Julian Ambrosine took eighth overall in the Division 1 boys discus. His 153-04 mark was not good enough to advance.
