Five Things to know: Los Angeles County Fire Officials Get a Needed Piece of Equipment

Here are five things you should know in Diamond Bar and Walnut on Friday, July 26:

  • Incoming freshman to Cal Poly Pomona are reminded to complete the ‘Beginning College Survey of Student Engagement’ survey. The link to the survey were emailed to new freshmen on July 15. Officials say the survey “provides Cal Poly with valuable information that will help improve our curriculum and general campus life.”
  • Fire authorities have predicted that this year will be the worst fire season in the last 100 years. In preparation, the officials recently announced that the Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors the continued lease of an Erickson Air Crane rotary wing Helitanker, according to the LA County Fire Department.
  • Diamond Bar’s City Council awarded a Certificate of Recognition to Jane Taylor Chief Executive Officer of the YMCA of Pomona Valley following her recent retirement during the July 19 meeting.
  • Los Angeles County Supervisor Don Knabe, who represents Diamond Bar, is proposing that the county extend the offer of $10,000 reward to anyone who provides information leading to the arrest and conviction of the person who killed a man in Long Beach. The shooting took place on July 23, 2012, shortly before midnight. The issue will be discussed during the boards July 30 meeting. 
  • Burglaries have been a problem for several towns in the area, including Walnut and Diamond Bar. On July 25, an 18-year was arrested on suspicion that he broke into a home. He was detained at a Diamond Bar apartment complex by deputies who caught him near the crime scene, according to deputies.
