Five Things: Walnut City Council, Stowaway Cat, and Bartering
A list of events and some stories in the news Diamond Bar and Walnut Patch readers should know about.

Here are five things that Diamond Bar and Walnut residents need to know today.
1. The Walnut City Council will have a special meeting at 7 p.m. tonight to consider appointing someone to fill the vacant seat left when former Mayor Tom King resigned July 1. A total of 10 candidates have applied for the seat.
2. Diamond Bar's Concerts/Movies in the Park summer series continues tonight at Sycamore Canyon Park, 22930 Golden Springs Drive. The event, which kicks off at 6:30 p.m., features the band Upstream (Caribbean) and the movie "Jumanji."
3. Did you see the story about the stowaway cat who authorities said traveled from the Philippines to the City of Industry without food or water? If not, check it out here.
4. If you like to knit, why not join fellow yarn buffs at the Walnut Public Library. The Knitting and Crocheting Club will meet at 1 p.m. at the library, 21155 La Puente Road. The group meets weekly and will work for beginners and pros alike. Visit the library's website for more information.
5. Anyone who likes a bargain might want to check out this article on bartering for home renovations. Bartering is an old tradition but still very much alive.
