Heat Alert Issued for San Gabriel Valley, Where to Find the Nearest Cooling Center

The alert will be in effect for the Los Angeles Basin and the San Fernando, Santa Clarita and East San Gabriel valleys.

LOS ANGELES, CA - With possibly record-breaking temperatures in the forecast, the Los Angeles County Department of Public Health announced Thursday that a heat alert will be in effect for much of the area from Sunday through at least Tuesday.

The alert will be in effect for the Los Angeles Basin and the San Fernando, Santa Clarita and East San Gabriel valleys. The alert will be in effect on Monday and Tuesday for the Antelope Valley and San Gabriel Valley.

"When temperatures are high, even a few hours of exertion may cause severe hydration, heat cramps, heat exhaustion and heat stroke," said Dr. Jeffrey Gunzenhauser, the county's interim health officer. "Others who are frail or have chronic health conditions may develop serious health problems leading to death if they are exposed to high temperatures over several days."
