LA County Fair Kicks Off its 91st Year Today

Here are today's highlights, including deals, entertainment, and exhibitions.

The L.A. County Fair is celebrating its 91st anniversary with one big party. Here’s a list of programs and deals for Opening Day, Friday, Aug. 30. More information can be found at www.lacountyfair.com.

Today’s Deals:
- $1 admission from 3-6 p.m.; $1 22-oz soft drinks from 6-9 p.m.; $2 carnival rides from 6-9 p.m.; $2 carnival games from 9 p.m.-midnight

-Seasonal Pass, presented by Walgreens, $24.99 for ages 6 and older at participating Walgreens

- Ralphs Any-Day Tickets: Admission tickets $10 for adults, $6 for ages 6-12, comes with exclusive unlimited carnival ride wristband ($35). Restrictions apply. Presented by Ralphs.

-Cardenas Markets Any-Day Tickets: Admission tickets are $10 for adults, $6 for ages 6-12. Tickets can be picked up at participating Cardenas locations. 

- Costco Savings Pack: $54.99 for 4 any-day tickets, one parking pass and 44 carnival ride/game tickets. At participating Costco store.

- Children 5 and younger are free every day.

Today’s Top Things To Do:

Opening Ceremony: The official ribbon cutting opening the 91st anniversary of the L.A. County Fair is at 3 p.m. at the Fair’s new exhibit: Pencils 2 Pixels – The Art of Animation.

91st Anniversary Parade: This opening day grand parade features elements from the Fair neighborhoods, community organizations, entertainment, classic cars, floats, local talent and more.
5 p.m.

WAR:  What do you get when you take funk, jazz, R&B and rock ‘n roll and mix it all together? You get one of the greatest bands of all time. Just a few of the hits from WAR’s impressive and timeless playlist include “Why Can’t We Be Friends,” “All Day Music,” “Slippin’ into Darkness,” “Cisco Kid” and “Low Rider.” A limited number of free general admission tickets will be available beginning at 3 p.m. at the ticket kiosk on Rose Lane. Reserved seats are available at ticketmaster.com and the Fair box office.
7:30 p.m.

Pencils 2 Pixels – The Art of Animation: Daily. Jump into the world of animation, from cartoons to the most popular CGI films from DreamWorks, Disney and other talented studios. Guests can learn to draw their favorite cartoon characters, view the giant 3D Zoetrope and learn about the many areas of the animation industry. 

Beneath the Sea: Daily. Explore the many animals and plants living beneath the sea. Sea lions, sharks, stingrays and even a mermaid call this exhibit their home.

Star Trek: The Exhibition: Daily. Live long and prosper! The new Star Trek exhibit brings guests into the depths of Star Trek fandom with original sets, props, costumes and photo opportunities at every corner. ($5 admission)

Mysteries of the Amazon: Daily. The Flower & Garden Pavilion has transformed into the rainforests of South America. Emerald boas, toucans, macaws and even a sloth have come to the Fair this year to check out the flora and fauna of their natural habitats.

Carnival: Daily. Ray Cammack Shows returns for its 29th year with the best carnival around. Three new rides have been added this year including Freestyle. 

Gwen in Doubt: Part of the Fair’s tribute band series, Gwen in Doubt delivers the best of Gwen Stefani and No Doubt. At the Coca Cola Stage. 7, 8:30, 10 & 11:30 p.m.
