Mini-park at Washington Street in the Works

Washington Street mini-park's design plans have been approved, and its contract will be put up for bidding in the coming weeks.

Design plans for a new mini-park at an undeveloped lot at the corner of Washington Street and Lincoln Avenue have been approved and will go to bid in the coming weeks, according to parks maintenance superintendent Anthony Jordan.

The park, to span one-third of an acre, will include a concrete walkway, a playground for children ages 2-5, open turf, benches, and water fountains.

The city's Parks and Recreation Commission heard an update from Community Services Director Bob Rose on the 1/3-acre project during its meeting Thursday night as it moves toward final stages of planning.

Jordan said Thursday that minor changes were made to the original park design in order to meet standards for playground accessibility before the project goes out to bid in the coming weeks.

According to the latest revision of the city's parks master plan, the project will cost a total $450,000, which the city has set aside as a part of its Capital Improvement Program, which is a list of priority projects to be completed when funding becomes available.
