Monday Essentials: Walnut Council Vacancy, Concerts in the Park, and 60 Freeway Closures

Here are five things residents of Diamond Bar and Walnut need to know this week.
1. Interested Walnut teens who want to serve the community still can apply for the city's Youth Advisory Commission. The deadline is 5 p.m. today. More information is available on the city's website.
2. Speaking of applying for posts, Walnut is looking to fill a City Council vacancy. The deadline for applying for the seat, which became vacant after former Mayor Tom King resigned July 1, is at 5 p.m. Tuesday. More information is available on the city's website.
3. Both Diamond Bar and Walnut are hosting Concerts and Movies in the Park this week, Tuesday for Walnut and Wednesday for Diamond Bar. Click here for Diamond Bar's line up and here for Walnut's.
4. City meetings are planned this week. The Diamond Bar Planning Commission meets at 7 p.m. Tuesday at City Hall, 21810 Copley Drive. The Walnut City Council meets 7 p.m. Wednesday at City Hall, 21201 La Puente Road.
5. Freeway closures on Interstate 60 are planned again for the weekend starting Friday. The partial closures are part of a $121.5 million pavement rehabilitation project.
