The city of Diamond Bar buzzed with excitement on Sunday during the Women's World Cup final game as they cheered on their own Alex Morgan, who scored the first goal against Japan.
The city of Diamond Bar buzzed with excitement on Sunday during the Women’s World Cup finals as they cheered on hometown favorite Alex Morgan and Team USA.
Morgan, her fans, and family supporters gathered throughout the city at local restaurants and bars wearing number thirteen jerseys with pride.
The Buffalo Wild Wings restaurant in Brea, not far from Diamond Bar High, welcomed Alex Morgan’s sister Jennifer and family that didn’t accompany Alex during the World Cup in Frankfurt, Germany.

“I’m so excited to see my sister play in her first World Cup Final,” Jennifer Morgan said.
Unfortunately, the United States fell to Japan in extra time in a 3-1 losing effort in penalty kicks.

Regulation expired with a tied 2-2 score, but Alex's fans were pleased with her performance, as she netted the team's first goal early in the second half and assisted Abby Wambach with an assist on the team's second goal.
Michelle Terkelson, a former Diamond Bar High team mascot and close friend of the Morgan family expressed her glee after Alex’s goal.
“To watch Alex grow up through the years and to see her excel at this level, it’s so amazing!” Terkelson said.
After the defeat, supporters said they are proud to be a part of Diamond Bar and Alex’s incredible journey on the Women’s National Team.
“Diamond is such a supportive, close-knit community and no one could be proud of her than the city of Diamond Bar,” Donnie Sizemore, class of 2000 graduate and former DBHS quarterback said, adding a cheer. "Go Brahmas!"
Alex's sister Jennifer was disappointed with the loss but enjoyed the ride.
“It’s unfortunate that USA didn’t defeat, Japan”, expressed Alex’s sister Jennifer. “But I’m so proud of Alex’s effort and awesome play she had this game."
