New Pizza Eatery Pieology Coming to Walnut

Bella Napoli Trattoria & Pizza recently shut its doors. 

A notice of closure from the Los Angeles County Public Health Department posted on the doors of the Walnut eatery, located at Valley Boulevard and Grand Avenue, reads that the business was shuttered for “violation(s) of California Health and Safety Code and/or Los Angeles County Code.”

The health department’s website did not have any information about violations or the restaurant itself. 

Walnut Community Development Director Tom Weiner said he was unaware of any health code violations at the site but understood that the owners recently sold the business.

The Orange County-based franchise Pieology plans to open up at that site.  The new owners on Wednesday pulled permits for tenant improvements at the property, meaning they can go in and revamp the interior whenever they get ready, Weiner said. 

Pieology is like the Subway of pizza places, Weiner said.  Customers go down the line and pick the toppings for the pizzas, which are made on the spot, he said.

“I’ve heard good things about it,” he said of the company.  “It should do well there.” 

Pieology specializes in making healthy, “kustom pizzas,” according to the company’s website.

“Using only the freshest ingredients, Pieology provides smoking hot pizzas in under 5 minutes,” company officials wrote on the website. “Our energy efficient restaurants are not only comfortable, but also adhere to the philosophies of our corporate mission statement: Making the world a better place one pizza at a time.” 

Pieology currently has locations in Fullerton and Irvine.  A franchise is opening Monday at the Puente Hills Mall, according to the website.
