Newborn Rescued In San Gabriel Valley

A good Samaritan discovered the infant, left alone, over the weekend.

WHITTIER, CA — A good Samaritan discovered an abandoned newborn baby over the weekend, in Whittier, officers said.

Police arrived at the scene at approximately 6 p.m. Saturday to find the infant at the 11600 block of Washington Boulevard, Lt. Ann Devane of the Pico Rivera sheriff's station said.

"The newborn was alive and taken to a hospital and is expected to live," Devane said. The condition of the baby was not released.

Deputies contacted a woman nearby "who had additional information," the lieutenant said. She was taken into custody shortly after that, according to Devane.

The investigation was turned over to the sheriff's Special Victims Bureau.
