Nogales High to Celebrate 50th Birthday

Alumni are encouraged to participate and share information about the events on a Facebook page that has been created.

Nogales High School is celebrating its 50th Anniversary (1962-2012) this year, and is preparing events designed to engage the entire community: students, parents, local businesses, staff, and alumni.

Nogales is preparing a special Homecoming Week, beginning with a “Back to the Future—Passport Through the Decades” Social at the school on Thursday. The evening will begin with tours of the campus at 5:30 p.m. Visitors will be able to see the construction and modernization of the buildings from the previous Bond Measure R.

From 6:30 to 9 p.m., guests will celebrate in a gala in the Mack Pace Gymnasium, with music, refreshments, hors d'oeuvres, and activities that will celebrate 50 years of traditions, memories, and reflections for the future. There will also be a chance to meet with current staff and hear about plans for the future.

Alumni have been actively courted for participation for this event, which is open to the public to arrive with a $15 fee. More information can be found on the school website at www.nogaleshs.org  or the Facebook page at www.facebook.com/nogaleshighschool. All guests are encouraged to RSVP on the Facebook Event set up for the celebration, and share the news with others.

On Friday, all guests are welcome to the Homecoming Game vs. Pomona High School, which will feature a special half-time show, including an open invitation for all past homecoming queens to participate. They can contact Activities Director Donna Nelson for more information. On Saturday, Oct. 20, 2012 will be the annual Homecoming Dance at the Mack Pace Pavilion from 7 to 11 p.m. The theme is also “Back to the Future.”

Nogales is also preparing for the first of an annual event—the Nogales High School Walk-a-Thon, benefitting Nogales Athletics. The event will take place on Wednesday, Nov. 7. Physical Education classes and clubs will participate throughout the day beginning at 7 a.m., while athletes will participate afterschool from 2:50 to 4 p.m. The goal for this year’s Walk-a-Thon will be to raise $44,000 for a new scoreboard for the Mack Pace Pavilion. Sponsorships are welcome, as well as donations from the community. All students are encouraged to participate, and there will be healthy snacks, music, and alternative activities like Zumba classes offered, as well.
