Pomona Unified Foundation, Cardenas Markets Unite to Support Student Success

Cardenas Markets will donate $25,000 to support PUPIL's education initiatives.

To strengthen the robust programs Pomona Unified School District has established to spark innovative student learning, the Pomona Unified Partners in Learning Foundation (PUPIL) is partnering with Cardenas Markets, which will donate $25,000 during a check presentation ceremony on March 17.

Representatives from Cardenas Markets, which operates three stores in Pomona, will present the check to PUPIL with the goal of inspiring students to reach for their dreams, as owner Jesus Cardenas did when he immigrated to America from Mexico and started his first market in 1981.

PUPIL has distributed more than $100,000 in philanthropic funds to upgrade learning equipment at District schools, formed community alliances that provide funding for student support services and partnered with community organizations to provide activities, resources and programs for students throughout the year. The donation from Cardenas Markets, which operates 29 stores in the regions, will support the District’s science, technology, engineering, arts, agriculture and math (STEAM) programs and learning opportunities.
