Local Award Winners Honored During City Council Meeting

Certificates of recognition and a New Business of the Month plaque were presented during Tuesday night's Diamond Bar City Council meeting.

During the Tuesday night Diamond Bar City Council meeting, two certificates of recognition were presented, as was a plaque for February’s New Business of the Month.

Martin Cardenas, the Scoutmaster for Boy Scout Troop #777, was honored for receiving the Silver Beaver Award by the Boy Scouts of America.

“We’re very proud of you, and we know things like Boy Scouts don’t work without volunteers like you,” Council member Steve Tye said. “Thanks very, very much on behalf of the entire Council.”

“We usually get to go where you are watch you present Eagle Scouts, and tonight you come where we are,” said Tye. “We’re glad to have you here.”

Mayor Pro Tem Jack Tanaka presented a certificate of recognition to Atharshna Singarajah, a Diamond Bar High School student who received the Leo of the Year award from Lions Club International.

“Leo Clubs exist in 140 countries around the world, with over 150,000 members,” Tanaka said. “She is one of 23 Leos in the world to receive this honor, one of only 12 in the United States, and the only one in California.”

Tanaka added that Singarajah received the award because she has “outstanding leadership skills, a superior record in implementing successful service projects, identifiable contributions to the development and growth of the Leo Club program, distinction in the community and school activities outside of Leo commitments, and high ethical standards and personal integrity.”

February’s New Business of the month is Intiraymi Restaurant, at 23545 Palomino Drive, Suite F. The restaurant serves Peruvian fare.

“In these tough economic times, we want to thank you for choosing Diamond Bar as the place to do your business,” Mayor Ling-Ling Chang said.
