UPDATED: Temblor Shakes Southland Yet Again

UPDATE: The U.S. Geological Survey has downgraded that 9:33 a.m. quake to a magnitude-4.1.

A 4.5-magnitude earthquake shook the area at 9:33 a.m. Wednesday, according to US Geological Survey officials.

The quake was centered two miles north-northeast of Yorba Linda in Orange County, in the same general area as last night’s quake.

Within a half hour, four more earthquakes, ranging in magnitude from 1.6 to 3.7, struck the same general area, according to the U.S. Geological Survey.

There have been 19 earthquakes on the Whittier Fault since shortly after 11:20 p.m. Tuesday night.

And like last night’s temblor, this morning's quake was shallow, only 5.6 miles deep. Reader reports confirm the quake was felt across Orange, Los Angeles and San Bernardino counties.

No major problems were reported, City News Service reported.

People near the epicenter described it as a short jolt that rattled windows but caused no immediate damage.

The temblor was felt in downtown Los Angeles, where the Los Angeles Fire
Department went into "earthquake emergency mode," fire department spokesman Brian Humphrey told City News Service.

"No significant damage or injuries were reported," Humphrey said.

Last night’s quake was a 4.4-magnitude earthquake, officially centered one mile southeast of Yorba Linda. The two were about 10 hours apart.

According to the US Geological Survey, that quake struck at 11:23 p.m. It was felt across the San Gabriel Valley and into the Inland Empire.

At least one I.E. resident reported the shaking went on for several seconds.
