UPDATED: Man Killed on 60 Freeway Ran into Traffic
The unnamed Hacienda Heights man died at the scene and all eastbound lanes were closed for a time.

A Hacienda Heights man "sprinted" directly into the path of a big rig on the eastbound Pomona (60) Freeway in the Whittier area today and died at the scene, the California Highway Patrol reported.
The 50-year-old man drove a 2000 BMW to the area around 4:35 a.m., stopped the vehicle on the right shoulder near Rosemead Boulevard and "walked onto the shoulder in front of his vehicle and waited," according to a CHP statement.
When a 2009 Freightliner eastbound in the No. 4 lane "was about the overtake (the BMW's) position, (the man) suddenly sprinted in a northerly direction directly into the path of (the truck) ... and was subsequently struck," the CHP reported.

The trucker, a 48-year-old Long Beach man whose name was withheld, was not injured.
Authorities withheld the dead man's name pending family notification.

All eastbound lanes were closed while an investigation was conducted. Three lanes were reopened by about 6 a.m., and all lanes had been reopened by about 8:45 a.m., the CHP reported.

A big rig fatally struck a pedestrian today on the eastbound Pomona (60) Freeway in the Whittier area, prompting closure of all eastbound lanes for a time, authorities said.
