Movie Goers Help Police Stop Disturbance At Batman Screening

A man suspected of shouting about going off "like in Colorado" is arrested in Norwalk theater, Los Angeles County Sheriff's officials said.

The “If You See Something, Say Something,” campaign may have led to the arrest of a man inside a local theater who had been shouting about the Colorado shooting, authorities said.

Clark Tabor, 52, was arrested inside the AMC Norwalk 20 Theatre about 5:15 tonight. Another movie-goer first reported that Tabor was shouting about a gun and Colorado just before a screening of “The Dark Knight,” according to Los Angeles County Sheriff’s officials.

A security officer spotted Tabor inside the theater holding a backpack on his knees, sheriff’s officials said. Deputies arrested Tabor shortly after.

Tabor reportedly held a cell phone in the air and yelled “Does anyone have a gun?” and “I should go off like in Colorado,” officials said. Witnesses told deputies they were afraid the suspect was going to pull a gun from his backpack and shoot.

Tabor was searched but no weapons were found on him, in the theatre or in the surrounding area. Tabor’s home was also searched but no guns found. He was arrested on suspicion of felony making criminal threats. He is being held in the Men’s Central Jail on $50,000 bail plus unrelated warrants. His next scheduled court date is Tuesday at Bellflower Court.

The AMC Puente Hills 20 planned to increase security and look over safety procedures, AMC officials have said.

'If You See Something, Say Something' campaign was launched by the U.S. Department of Homeland Security to encourage people to report suspected acts of terrorism. The program was again in the spotlight following the shooting in Aurora, Colo.

“A witness saw and heard strange activity and reported it immediately, said Captain Pat Maxwell, Norwalk Sheriff’s Station. “This is exactly the kind of help law enforcement needs to help protect the public. 'If You See Something, Say Something.’ The greatest deterrent to crime is often a phone call to law enforcement by a person who sees something that just doesn't look right.”
