Walnut and Suzanne to Host Earth Day Event Saturday

The event will include a free composting workshop.

The city of Walnut and the Suzanne Middle School Conservation Club will recognize Earth Day Saturday with an event at the city's Gymnasium and Teen Center.

The Earth Day Celebration will be in the center's parking lot, 21003 La Puente Road, and feature the Suzanne Middle School Song & Dance Club "Project Greenway" Fashion Show, a Valley Vista Services information booth, and the Walnut High EGGA.

Several food trucks, including the slummin gourmet, Waffles de Liege, and Philly Phil's Italian Ice also plan to participate in the event, which goes from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.

The County of Los Angeles Smart Gardening Program plans to host a free composting workshop from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. in the Walnut Teen Center Conference Room. Space is tight, so to pre-register, call 909-598-5605.

Composting involves recycling yard and kitchen waste into soil to be used in the garden or on the lawn. Valley Vista Services is sponsoring the workshop, which will feature a raffle for participants.  Composting bins also will be for sale.
