As we continue monitoring the Coronavirus (COVID-19) situation, we are working in cooperation with City of Walnut Officials and other local authorities. The City of Walnut released the following message this morning:
“Last night (3/11/2020), the City of Walnut was informed by local authorities that the first death from the novel coronavirus in Los Angeles County occurred at the local Pomona Valley Hospital. The patient [68-year old with previous health conditions] was admitted to the hospital in full cardiac arrest on March 9th and unfortunately passed shortly after admission. It has been confirmed by the LA County Department of Public Health that family members of the patient are currently in quarantine. As information is being released from County officials, it was revealed the patients’ travel history included a residence within the City of Walnut. The County also informed us the individual did NOT circulate around the City of Walnut and stayed primarily at the residence.”

Our investigation has determined that NO student in the Walnut Valley Unified School District resides at the residence address communicated to the District by the City of Walnut. At this time, we will continue to monitor and comply with all LA County Department of Public Health directives and recent direction from the Governor’s Office of Emergency Services.
Again, at this time, there have been no directives from the Public Health Office to close schools. All schools will remain on normal schedule.
Any further developments will be communicated to our community as soon as possible. If you have any further questions, please contact Dr. Jeanette Koh, Director of Educational Services at (909) 595-1261 extension 31257 or jkoh@wvusd.k12.ca.us.
