18-Year-Old Female Arrested As 2nd Suspect In Shooting Death Of Vacaville Teen

Police arrested a second suspect, an 18-year-old female, in the shooting death of an 18-year-old Vacaville High School student on Monday, police said today.

Officers arrested Kai Hughes, 18, of Vacaville on Monday at around 9:30 p.m. in Citrus Heights, police said.

She was booked in Solano County Jail on suspicion of murder.

Police arrested the first suspect, 20-year-old Vacaville resident Alijondro Edward Jones on Thursday when he was scheduled to meet with his probation officer at the Solano County Probation Office in Fairfield, police said.

Police found the victim, Demetrious Ward, in an apartment complex in the 100 block of Aegean Way a little after 1:30 a.m. on Oct. 6 with a gunshot wound in the head, police said.

He was transported to Kaiser Permanente in Vacaville, where he underwent surgery, but police said he died roughly three hours later, at 4:30 a.m.

Police said Jones approached Ward with the intent to rob him of a small amount of marijuana.

Hughes arranged the deal and rode in Ward’s car to the parking lot of the apartment complex, where they met up with Jones who was waiting for them, said Lt. Matt Lydon.

“Eventually Ward stayed in the truck,” Lydon said. “Hughes exited the truck and Jones attempted to rob Ward while he was still in the car.”

Lydon said they are still trying to determine where Hughes was when Jones allegedly shot Ward from outside the car.

Police said they contacted several people during the course of the investigation, leading to Jones’s arrest on suspicion of murder, attempted robbery and violation of his probation.
