Silver-Suit Wearing Bandit Robs Wells Fargo Bank Inside Safeway

Tranquility of a quiet Sunday afternoon broken as officers arrive with guns drawn

A man in a silver-colored business suit robbed the Wells Fargo mini-bank inside Dixon’s store Sunday at approximately 2:30 p.m. He was not immediately apprehended.

Two Dixon police cars pulled up to the store while this reporter was dropping mail into a mailbox adjacent to the store, and, guns at ready, were shooing people away from the store and standing just outside one of the entrances. Meanwhile, Safeway customers were calmly exiting the store, apparently unaware that a robbery had just taken place.

According to Patrol Officer Nate Giovanetti at the scene, Dixon’s police cars arrived within 40 seconds after receiving an armed robbery call, but soon determined that the robber had already left. Giovanetti said the suspect was an African-American and that a surveillance photo would probably be released later.

Inside the grocery store, the bank was closed for business with a yellow tape wrapped around the front counter, behind which three or four bank employees were conferring. A Dixon police office was seen sitting at a desk inside a side room.

In addition to the Dixon police officers at the scene, a Solano County Sheriff’s car had arrived.

The nearness of Freeway 80 to the Safeway store would make a quick getaway fairly easy.

More details about the crime may be available on Monday.
