Prom, Clean-ups, and Church Celebrations Happening Around Town
Dixon High Prom, the Tremont Church Biennial, and some 'Helping Hands' are part of the upcoming week in Dixon.

Rhyme Doesn't Match Weather
The little nursery rhyme says that March will come in like a lion and that April showers bring May flowers. I think of that little ditty every year when I am wanting to change the flannel sheets off the beds and exchange my thick sweaters for light weight clothes. That's when I'll remember that we are not quite done with winter just because March winds seem so warm.
But, according to the rhyme, the blustery winds are arriving late. April actually blew in like a lion even knocking over our large, heavy barbecue in the back yard. I heard the gusts and I thought it was lifting our storage shed up into the sky when I saw that it was, amazingly, the barbecue. Made me really glad we cut down our super tall trees a couple years ago. I am certain they would have toppled onto our house.
So I was thinking if April came in like a lion, then does that mean that the April showers will really happen in May and that June is when we¹ll see the flowers? I heard another radio newscast that reported someone was suing the groundhog for messing with us.
Look out for Limos Saturday
Dixon High School students will be out in their finery this coming Saturday as it is their annual Junior Prom. The event will be held at the Elks Towers in Sacramento and the theme is 'Casino.'

I just hope there are small groups of friends that go in together for limos or gatherings instead of extra large numbers of guests renting busses. Last year's 'Promgate' just now faded out of our memories and we don't need a repeat. It's just a fact, however, that there is less control when there are crowds.
Most of us love seeing the students all dressed up and scattered about Cattlemen's, Bud's, and the Winter's Buckhorn. May all the experiences be happily memorable.
Dixon to Get Helping Hands
The City of Dixon is going to get a very large helping hand on Saturday, April 27, thanks to the LDS Mormon Church volunteers. Thousands of members and friends of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints will participate in a day of service throughout the state with a huge number to help in Dixon parks and streets.
'The Helping Hands' organization was started in 1998 with the goal of reaching out to respective communities through an annual day of service. The "Day of Service" now happens across the globe with hundreds of thousands of volunteers.
"It is an amazing opportunity for Dixon," said Joe Leach, the new Dixon City Engineer and Public Works Director. ³We¹ve never had this large of a group of volunteers. Refreshing the paint on red curbs, beautifying parks via picking up trash or pulling weeds, and painting baseball backdrops are just some of the tasks the group will undertake.
They will start at Hall Park early in the morning and a crew of workers will go to each park, Leach announced at a recent public meeting. The Helping Hands group is comprised of Dixonites as well as people form Davis and Vacaville and they will work for four hours. The public is invited to come and volunteer alongside--as Leach said, there was much to do.
Tremont Mite Society Celebrates
If you haven't had the pleasure of seeing the little white Tremont Church on Tremont Road, you must take a look soon or mark your calendar for Sunday, April 28. That is when the Tremont Mite Society of the 1871 Westminster Presbyterian Church, will be hosting the Biennial Social at the little church.
My husband and I considered using the little church for our small wedding but with it sharing the yard with the old cemetery as well, I decided on a different church a little more in town.
Some members of the society can still recall the horse drawn carriages that helped bring supplies to build the church half way between their home and Silveyville so they wouldn¹t have to travel so far to go to Sunday services. Some of those 'historians' will even be at the celebration to share about the old church.
The public is invited to the 150th Anniversary Celebration from 2 to 4 pm. The Tremont Church is located at 8290 Tremont Road in Dixon which is west of Mace Boulevard (Road 103). There will be activities for children and refreshments.
In the meantime, have a great week! TTFN
