CHP Officer Killed On I-80 Near Fairfield
Solano County California Highway Patrol Officer Kirk Griess died in the collision near Manuel Campos Parkway, according to officials.

FAIRFIELD, CA – A California Highway Patrol motorcycle officer was killed in a crash this morning on Interstate 80 near Fairfield, according to officials.
The officer was behind a Saturn SUV on the right shoulder of westbound Highway 80 near Manuel Campos Parkway around 9 a.m. when a Chevrolet pickup collided with the officer and the Saturn, the CHP said.
The West Sacramento Police Department said on Twitter that Solano County CHP Officer Kirk Griess died in the crash.

The CHP was at the scene investigating the "major collision" involving the CHP officer and other motorists, the Solano County Sheriff's Office said at 12:15 p.m. Friday.
Alternative routes were advised for motorists as there was heavy traffic in the area and only one lane open, deputies said, adding, "Please drive safely and stay patient during this ongoing investigation. Our thoughts and prayers are with all involved and impacted in this collision."
