Dehydrated Hiker Hoisted From Solano County Trail
Breaking: A California Highway Patrol helicopter responded to help rescue the hiker Sunday, a fire official said.

SOLANO COUNTY, CA -- A California Highway Patrol Helicopter helped rescue a dehydrated hiker from the Stebbins Cold Canyon Reserve wilderness area in unincorporated Solano County Sunday afternoon.
Two men and a woman were hiking in the popular area off of state Highway 128 at about 3 p.m. when at least one of them became dehydrated and needed help getting back to a trailhead, according to Vacaville Fire
Protection District Deputy Chief Douglas Rogers.
The hikers were able to use a cellphone to call emergency responders, who determined that it would be best to send in a helicopter because of the steep and rugged nature of the terrain, Rogers said.

It took the CHP helicopter crew about 20 minutes to locate the trio.
Once they were found, the person suffering from dehydration was hoisted into the helicopter and taken to safety.

The person refused medical treatment and the other two hikers were able to walk back to the trailhead, Rogers said.
The area is a popular spot for hiking but people often find themselves unprepared for the hot weather and difficult terrain, Rogers said.
"Wear appropriate shoes, hiking shoes not flip flops or tennis shoes," Rogers said. "And take lots of water. Hydration is the key."
