For the second straight game, Jaret Wedow was the Dixon Red Sox’s hero.
put the Red Sox into the District 64 Majors Tournament of Champions, his bases-loaded sacrifice fly in the bottom of the seventh inning kept his team in the winners bracket, helping them advance in a 4-3 extra innings victory over the Winters Cardinals Monday night in Winters.
Wedow also pitched almost the duration again after coming in for starter Matt Butler in the second inning with no outs. And yet again, he was stellar, striking out 12 and giving up just two runs in his final game in Majors ball - he will be headed on a family vacation in the next few days and won't be available for the rest of the TOC.

“Just an outstanding job again,” Dixon coach Andy Butler said. “He uses the entire plate, assess his batter and uses that to take advantage of the at-bat.”
Wedow pitched into extra innings and kept the game tied after getting into a tough jam in the top of the seventh. He recorded back-to-back strikeouts to start the extra frame, but an infield error and walk put runners on first and second. A wild pitch put both runners in scoring position, but a resiliant Wedow got William Moore to ground out to first to end the threat.

In the bottom of the seventh, Sam Splinter led off with a single to put the winning run on base for Dixon, and would advance to third after Ryan Murphy and Matt Butler drew back-to-back walks to load the bases with no outs.
And like Thursday night, up came Wedow with a chance to win the game with his final at-bat again. With his sacrifice fly to right field that brought in Splinter, he didn’t disappoint.
“He lives for the moment, and he rises to the occasion,” Butler said.
Splinter drove in the Red Sox first run in the second inning with a single to left field, bringing in Jason Dedora to tie the game at 1-1. Michael Raycroft also tried to score but was beaten to the plate by the Cardinals' Moore, whose throw from left field got Raycroft out by more than 10 feet.
After Winters pulled ahead with two runs in the top fifth, Dixon responded in the bottom half of the inning. Ryan Murphy singled and Matt Butler walked to place runners on first and second, and both advanced on a wild pitch by Cardinals starter Gunner Faulk. Wedow slapped a grounder to short, and Murphy beat Cardinals shortstop Greg Creamer’s throw to the plate. Jason Dedora followed with a groundout to second that scored Butler to tie the game.
“The kids give me a heart attack,” said Butler of the nail-biting victories. “I don’t know if I’m going to live to see my birthday.”
Butler credited his squad with pulling through as a unit one more time.
“It’s always a team effort,” he said. “And these guys won as a team again.”
Dixon will play the winner of the Rio Vista/Esparto matchup on Wednesday in Winters at 7:30 p.m.
