Dixon Girls Too Much For Vallejo, Roll 48-31
The Rams' hot start put the game out of reach quickly.
Dixon High girls’ basketball coach Mike Barrett knows his team's strength is their outside shooting.
So when his team started off their game against Vallejo with four-straight three pointers, it wasn’t a complete surprise to him.
The Rams would use that fast start to roll to an easy 48-31 victory over the Apaches Wednesday night.

“We’re an outside shooting team,” Barrett said. “We started consistently making our outside shots. We just got going, we had had good energy and the kids were upbeat when they started hitting their outside shots.”
Laura Garcia would hit back-to-back threes in the first quarter to put the Rams up 6-0, and Carlene Dyer would follow with her own pair of shots outside the three-point arc that put Dixon up 12-5 going into the second.

The Rams (10-7) shooting and passing attack consistently found open shooters that sunk the Apaches' chances for any kind of upset. Vallejo never attempted a full-court press, a tactic that fell right into the hands of Dixon, who either had time to call plays with ease or found holes in the Apaches defense.
Dixon held Vallejo to single-digit scoring in every quarter except the fourth, where the Rams backed off. The Apaches were held to just five points in the third and first quarters. The Rams bumped up a seven-point lead after one to 10 at the half, and 16 after three.
The bottom line: Dixon pulled away in each period, never giving Vallejo a chance to comeback.
Sophomore Miranda Williams led Dixon with 10 points and 16 rebounds. Dyer, Garcia, Samantha Del Mugnaio and Kaylyn Borelli each scored eight points. Maddie Dwelley had six points and five assists.
The Dixon J.V. girls also won, 52-24.
The Rams play at West Campus of Sacramento next Wednesday at 7 p.m.
