Dixon Patch Viewfinder: A City Garden's Summer Progress
Many crops have already peaked
Back on June 11 a Viewfinder article ("A grocery produce section in my back yard") showed crops just getting started in my small garden. Cool weather had slowed growth and ripening. Now, a month and a half later, with warmer weather, a lot has happened.
The blackberry and raspberry crops have been picked. Pole string beans have peaked, but are still producing a few more pods. The Santa Rosa plum tree produced a lot of fruit, and there are still a few more out there. A few tomatoes have ripened, but most are still green. And -- no surprise -- the summer squash plants have been producing plenty of yellow and green veggies.

It sure is fun to pick things in the garden and use them immediately in salads or for cooking. And it's fun to experiment with new types of plants or varieties.
