Planning for Next Year

It seems very important to clearly establish our position on the 2021-22 school year: Unless prevented by an order of a public health agency or other governmental authority, Dixon Unified School District will return to the normal structure of five full days per week of instruction. In other words, we will operate in our regular model. There may be conditions attached to this - the most likely might be wearing masks - but we will be back to as normal as possible.
While we continue to work hard on making sure that our students are receiving the best possible instruction and support right now, we are also heavily engaged in planning for next year. As shared in last weekβs update, we are receiving over $10 million in funding over the next three years to help us come back and recover from all of the impacts of the pandemic.

We held three Town Hall Meetings for parents this week. While the amount of participation was small, we did receive good input and questions that will help us in our planning.
There are currently three surveys being offered to the members of our school community to get input on priority areas and needs that we may not have considered up to this point in time.
- Student survey for students at John Knight Middle School, Dixon High, and Maine Prairie High. This survey will be offered to students on Monday and Tuesday during class time.
- A family survey is currently available to take. It will be closed at Noon on Wednesday, April 28th. The survey has been emailed to families, is posted on the front of our website, and can be found on our Facebook page as well. These links will also take you directly to the Spanish and English surveys.

- Our staff also has the chance to complete a survey offering their perspectives on our priorities for moving forward and addressing our needs.
All of the survey results and other information from work the administrative staff is doing to plan will be shared at a Special Governing Board Meeting on Thursday, April 29th at 6:00 P.M. We really want to hear directly from our families and students in addition to the input we are receiving through the surveys. After presenting the surveys and other information there will be a full opportunity for the public to make comments or ask questions. Please join us and participate!
Current Conditions
As has been the case almost since Solano County entered the red tier in early March, conditions with regard to case numbers and positivity rates have not improved significantly. While many other counties around us have transitioned to the orange tier, we seem to be stuck in Solano County. The implication for us is the strong unlikelihood that we would be able to entertain having our in-person students attend for any more time than they currently do. As we are fully reopened, if we were to return to the more restrictive purple tier we would not be required to go back to the full Distance Learning model. To summarize, based on health conditions and the time remaining in the school year, we can expect to complete this year with our current structure and schedules.
