Dixon Weekend Planner July 15-17

Are you looking for something to do this weekend? Check out some of the things on the Dixon Calendar and see if there's something for you.

Saturday:

This free clinic for boys and girls between the ages of 5 and 15 will teach the kids the fundamentals of passing, punting and kicking. Open to all levels of skill, this clinic encourages participants to learn and have fun while competing. This clinic is sponsored by the Dixon QB Club and the Dixon Youth Football and Cheer.

If you go: The free clinic is from 10 a.m. to noon at the new Stadium, 555 College Way in Dixon. Beverages and snacks will be provided. For more information call 707-280-7841.

Saturday:  

SummerMusic on the Quad is back and this time there's a food truck to go along with all the kickin' tunes.  The quad opens at 6 p.m. with the music starting at 7:30 pm so pack a picnic or buy something delicious from the Shah Halal Middle Eastern food truck serving sandwiches, rice platters and more.  Catch Steve Riley & The Mamou Playboys, a Grammy winning Cajun band from the backwaters of Southwest Louisiana with a sound that’s distinctly their own. If you haven’t heard them, here’s your chance!

If you go: Picnics start at 6 pm. on the Quad at UC Davis with performances beginning at 7:30 p.m.  Click here for campus map. Alcoholic beverages are prohibited on the campus.

 

Friday until July 31:

Families Can Look Forward to Supersized Summer Fun and Great Concerts. “The Fun Just Got Bigger!” is the 2011 State Fair theme to be celebrated July 14-31. Some of the great entertainment includes livestock competitions, wine and beer competitions, thoroughbred horse racing, talent shows for adults and kids and more. Visitors can watch the extreme sports competitions and check out the freestyle motorcross. Or how about enrolling in "Rock U - The Institute of Rock "N" Roll?" There you can learn about the history of rock 'n roll and gain hands-on experience to become a rock star. There's also great exhibits like "KANGAROO JOEY'S BIG ADVENTURE,” that has a menagerie of live critters; including a six-month old marsupial from Australia, a bug exhibit and so much more. Blue Oyster Cult, Air Supply, Neon Trees, Lee Greenwood, War, Choo Choo Soul, Three Dog Night and Starship with Mickey Thomas are just some the bands scheduled to play,. also scheduled are Beatles, Michael Jackson and Steely Dan tributes shows. Don't miss the California State Fair.
