Fairfield Mom Arrested, Accused of Meth-Poisoning Death of 2-Month-Old Baby

The infant died in July with "acute methamphetamine poisoning" now listed as cause of death.

A mother was arrested today in connection with the death of her baby who died from methamphetamine poisoning in Fairfield earlier this year, a police lieutenant said.

Shelby Frederick, 21, of Fairfield, was arrested on suspicion of assault of a child causing death, Fairfield police Lt. Stephen Crane said.

Frederick was about five months pregnant when she was arrested Wednesday, police said.

On June 18, Frederick’s 2-month-old infant who was choking and had difficulty breathing was taken to NorthBay Medical Center, Crane said. The baby was pronounced dead at the hospital and released to the Solano County coroner’s office, he said.

Officers received autopsy results in July when they learned the baby’s cause of death was acute methamphetamine poisoning, according to Crane.

Over the course of their investigation, police determined Frederick was the infant’s mother and had full care and custody of the child, Crane said.

A search warrant was served at a home in the 2500 block of Baltic Drive during the investigation, the lieutenant said.

Detectives located her today in Vallejo where she was arrested and later booked into Solano County Jail.
