Give Back to Service Members with the Library's "Book to Action" Program

Dixon Public Library is the recipient of the Book to Action Grant from the California State Library.

Book-to-Action builds on the traditional book club concept, but in addition to providing an opportunity to collectively read and discuss a book, Book-to-Action enables readers to put their new-found knowledge into action by engaging in a community service project related to the book's topic.

Dixon’s spin on the Book-to-Action program is focused on Veterans and is structured for family participation! Adult participants will read the New York Times bestseller, The Heart and the Fist by Eric Greitens, a memoir of the author’s humanitarian work, training to become a Navy SEAL, and experiences in combat. Greitens’ story challenges readers to serve others with purpose and compassion. Each session will also have a guest speaker.

Also as part of this program family members will work together to create patriotic themed craft projects, some of which will be included in care packages for overseas service members. We welcome all interested participants to learn more about this program by calling or visiting the library’s website or attending the information session.
