Nelson Fire Hits 1,000 Acres Between Vacaville & Fairfield

Fairfield High School is the designated evacuation center, officials said.

VACAVILLE, CA β€” A fire burning dry, grassy hills between Fairfield and Vacaville has grown to about 1,000 acres and is 10 percent contained tonight, a Cal Fire spokeswoman said.

The Nelson Fire started at about 4:30 p.m. near Nelson and Lagoon Valley roads just off Interstate Highway 80.

Cal Fire spokeswoman Lynne Tolmachoff said no injuries have been reported and no structures have been reported damaged or destroyed.

At of 9:20 p.m., Fairfield police said evacuations for the Paradise Valley and Gold Ridge neighborhoods are still in effect, but the fire's forward progress has been stopped.

So crews are making those areas safe for repopulation. Police said they don't have an estimate for when the areas will be safe to occupy again.

Police said they are just worrying about evacuating residents and visitors as a vegetation fire burns tonight between Fairfield and Vacaville.

As of 8:19 p.m. fire incident spokesman Officer Cade Beckwith said he sees about four miles of fire along Interstate Highway 80 between Highway 80 and Peabody Road.

The flames are burning dry, grassy hills and luckily not a lot of structures are in the area, Beckwith said.

No injuries have been reported and no structures have been reported damaged or destroyed.

Beckwith said he had no estimate of the size of the fire or whether firefighters had stopped the forward progress in any area.

Residents have been evacuated from Hancock and Hom drives in the Gold Ridge Development in Fairfield and from Constitution Avenue, Paradise Valley Estates Drive and Couples Circle in the Paradise Valley area of
Fairfield.

Police said officers are evacuating another area of Fairfield as a vegetation fire, now named the "Nelson Fire," spreads east this evening.

Residents of Hancock and Hom drives in the Gold Ridge Development were being evacuated as of 7:22 p.m., according to police.

An evacuation center is open at Fairfield High School, which is at 205 E. Atlantic Ave. in Fairfield.

People evacuated from senior living centers in the Paradise Valley area are being taken to the high school.

Residents are also being or have been evacuated from Constitution Avenue, Paradise Valley Estates Drive and Couples Circle north of Paradise Valley Golf Course.

The first advisory about the fire was sent out at 5:34 p.m. because the fire had started in the Paradise Valley area.

Residents were being evacuated this evening from Constitution Avenue, Paradise Valley Estates Drive and Couples Circle north of Paradise Valley Golf Course in Fairfield because of a vegetation fire burning between Fairfield and Vacaville, police said.

AT 6:46 p.m. officials advised residents in the Foxborough/Youngsdale area to shelter in place. Southbound Peabody is closed at Alamo, officials said.

The evacuation center for those currently affected is at Fairfield High School, 205 E. Atlantic Ave., the Vacaville Police Departments said.

"Residents from the senior living centers are being taken to Fairfield High," The Fairfield Police Department said. "People looking to pick up family members should go there."

An advisory initially was issued at 5:34 p.m. due to the fire burning in the Paradise Valley area.

Police said anyone was the area is asked to leave immediately, with others asked to avoid the area.

PREVIOUS: FRIDAY, AUG. 10, 6:09 p.m.

A fast-moving brush fire burning near Vacaville and Fairfield this evening has prompted evacuations, police officials said. The blaze broke out near the Paradise Valley Estates Golf Course, according police.

Authorities are evacuating homes on Constitution Avenue, Estates Drive, and Couples Circle near the Paradise Valley Golf Course.

β€œAnyone in that area is asked to leave immediately,” police said.

Smoke from the blaze can be seen for miles. No other information is available.
