
Here's our favorite picks for a whole week of fun for our local families.
1. Old Sacramento’s 15th Annual St. Patrick’s Day Parade is held rain or shine Saturday, March 12, starting at 1 p.m. at 2nd and L Streets and proceeding throughout the historic district. More than 50 unites, a thousand marchers and all kinds of Irish dancers in elaborate costumes will bring lively entertainment. This is a great family-centered event. 2. Movie Theater Tuesday Discount Night at the Holiday 6, 101 F Street and Stadium 5 on 420 G Street , Davis. Admission is $5.00 for select movies and $2 for a small popcorn. This is a bargain for movie lovers but call in advance to make sure the movie you want to watch is discounted. There is free parking in the garage above the theaters. 3. Crocker Art Museum, 216 O Street in Sacramento is a wonderful museum to take your family to. It opens at 10 a.m. and there is a small fee for parking. It offers free admission to children six and under and adults are $10.00. For more info, go to www.crockerartmuseum.org or call (916) 808-7000.
4. Sutter’s Fort State Historic Park, 207 L Street in Sacramento. Open daily 10 a.m. – 5 p.m. and is located next to California State Indian Museum. (916) 445-4422 or go to www.parks.ca.gov. Meter parking is free on Sundays.

5. Cosumnes River Preserve, 13501 Franklin Boulevard is in Galt (between Sacramento and Stockton) and is open sunrise to sunset, year-round with a Visitor Center open most weekdays. Weekend hours are 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. with free admission but parking is $5.00. More than 250 bird species, more than 40 fish species, and some 230 plant species have been identified on the Preserve. Go to www.consumnes.org and double-check schedule before leaving. The Cosumnes River Walk is a 3-mile dirt trail; Lost Slough Wetlands Walk – 1 mile concrete trail, universally accessible and is great for wheelchairs and strollers.
