Man Seriously Injured Assembling Fireworks In Fairfield Garage

A 42-year-old man was seriously injured while assembling fireworks in his garage in Fairfield on Wednesday evening, according to police.

Anthony Stewart suffered life-threatening burns across his body in an explosion reported at 5:04 p.m. inside the garage at his home in the 1700 block of Catlin Drive, police said. Stewart was taken to a Sacramento-area burn unit and an update on his condition was not immediately available this morning.

He apparently was assembling fireworks for the upcoming Fourth of July holiday, according to police. A large number of undetonated devices were found in the garage, prompting the evacuation of nearby residents and the response by the Yolo County bomb squad and the federal Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, police said.

The neighbors were relocated for the night with the assistance of the American Red Cross, according to police.
