Napa Earthquake Forces Transfer of Some Inmates to Solano County
The jail is structurally sound, but some repairs are needed

The Department of Corrections received a court order on Thursday, September 11, 2014 to transfer approximately 60 inmates to Solano County jail facilities.
“The safety of our staff and inmates has always been and remains our top priority. Non-structural damage sustained from the earthquake has created safety concerns and requires the movement of inmates from certain areas of the facility in order for the County to properly assess necessary repairs,” says Lenard Vare, Director of Corrections.
The Napa County Hall of Justice and Jail Facility were inspected following the August 24, 2014 earthquake. The entire building was determined to be structurally sound, but use of the building was restricted for correctional purposes only pending non-structural repairs. Inmate movement is necessary for the ongoing safety of inmates and staff, and only a portion of the inmates will be affected by the move. The building remains closed to the public and inmates in the Napa County Jail may receive visits via video visitation. The Department continues to accept new bookings and is working closely with officials at the Board of State and Community Corrections to ensure compliance with State regulations.
