See's Candy Sales Today to Benefit Kiwanis Family House

Chocolate Bars Sell This Evening Outside Safeway

The Dixon Kiwanis Club will be selling See's Candy Chocolate Bars outside of Safeway today, beginning at 4 p.m. to help raise funds for the Kiwanis Family House--a temporary housing site for parents whose child has been admitted to the hospital through the Emergency Room at UC Davis Medical Center in Sacramento.

Imagine that you receive the phone call that every parent dreads. Your child has been in a serious accident and must be transported to a major medical center, miles from your home. You arrive, desperately frightened, emotionally drained , and with only $20 in your pocket. And, after paying to park your car, there's only $3 left, and your other kids haven't eaten in hours. You have no idea how long your child will be in the hospital.

Imagine you are a cancer patient requiring ongoing treatment at UC Davis Medical Center, but you live over 200 miles away. With finances tight, you are fortunate to have the "angels " at Angels Flight transport you to Sacramento Executive Airport, but, you need a place to stay and recover for a few days after receiving treatment.

These are the stories of recent guests at the Kiwanis Family House. In every case, these families were sent to the Kiwanis Family House and found a warm bed, a kitchen to prepare a meal, a caring smile and a feeling of home. In the past 27 years the Kiwanis Family House has hosted nearly 20,000 families in need. These families are not only residents of the Kiwanis Club Cal-Nev-Ha District, they also include residents from 45 states and 20 countries.

Each Kiwanis Club helps support the Kiwanis Family House and selling chocolate bars may not seem like a large contribution but the Dixon club hopes to sell enough to raise $500 that will all go to the K-House.
