Several Agencies Respond To Solano County Fires Since Tuesday

Two of the vegetation fires are suspected arson cases.

Firefighters in Solano County cities have responded to a number of fires since Tuesday.

The Vacaville Fire Department responded to two suspected arson brush fires along a bicycle path early this morning, City of Vacaville spokesman Mark Mazzaferro said.

The first fire around 1 a.m. was just north of the 200 block of Brookdale Drive, and the second at 3:50 a.m. was just north of Sansome Court in the Woodhaven/Bel Air area, Mazzaferro said. No structures were threatened and the fires were quickly extinguished.

The fire department is investigating the incidents, Mazzaferro said.

Firefighters from Benicia, Fairfield, Cordelia, Vallejo, the Valero Refinery Department, Rodeo, Hercules and Contra Costa Fire Protection District responded to three multi-alarm fires between 4:30 p.m. and 8 p.m. Tuesday, Benicia Fire Division Chief K.C. Smith said.

A vehicle fire on northbound Interstate Highway 680 at Bayshore Road spread to vegetation and blackened more than five acres just south of the Bayshore Road exit, Smith said.

Firefighters kept the blaze away from numerous recreational vehicles stored at the Fleetview Self Storage facility at 2991 Bayshore Road, Smith said.

Some firefighters left that blaze to respond to a vegetation fire along the I-680 corridor near the Lake Herman exit, Smith said.

The fire spread into the yard of Organics Solutions Compost at 1460 Goodyear Road, a green waste recycling facility, and burned stored materials that were to be used for landscaping material, Smith said.

Several agencies provided mutual aid to the Cordelia Fire Protection District and brought the six-hour incident under control, Smith said.

Firefighters from Benicia and other agencies also responded to a fully-involved house fire in the 600 block of Rose Drive that was reported by more than 25 surrounding residents, Smith said.

A shed and vehicle in the backyard of the property burned, but the residence sustained minimal heat damage only, Smith said.

Two firefighters received minor injuries while fighting the three fires Tuesday, and the fire on Rose Drive and northbound I-680 were determined to be accidental, Smith said.
