The Solano County Board of Education is responsible for appointing a successor to complete the final two
years of Speck’s term. Board President Dana Dean will lead the process to appoint a successor.
“Jay’s countywide leadership has been nothing short of stellar through very challenging times, including
the recession and the massive shift in education policy that the adoption of the Local Control and
Accountability Plans (LCAP) and the Local Control Funding Formula (LCFF) model represent," Dean said. "While Jay will be deeply missed, he leaves behind an organization that is a model of strength and harmony with a focus where it should be – on our children. It is vital to our community that we maintain the stability and culture that Superintendent Speck has nurtured here.

"As such, the Board will act promptly, yet carefully, to ensure a smooth and seamless transition to a new leader who will support that culture. Our staff, our school districts, and the community can be confident that this great organization will continue to operate effectively through this transition and, as always, with our children’s education and well-being foremost in our minds.”
Speck thanked the community for supporting him and giving him the opportunity to serve as the Solano
County Superintendent of Schools.
“The decision to retire was a difficult one, but I feel it is the right time for my family, for me, and the organization. I am looking forward to spending more time with my family and grandkids and having time to explore and enjoy the many aspects of living that come with the gift of time,” he said.
