βI am delighted and pleased to have had an opportunity to work with Ms. Tonya Robinson to initiate and design our program, which was approved by the Department of Public Health in June of this year. This program prepared students and members of our community for employment, and is also an entry level program that may serve as a career pathway for other healthcare professions, such as nursing, medicine, radiography, sonography, nuclear medicine, radiologic oncology and others,β stated Dr. Maurice McKinnon, SCC School of Health Sciences Dean, Interim.

βSolano College is very appreciative of the nursing staff and director of nursing at Vacaville Convalescent and Rehab for helping us educate the students. We cannot provide such an education to students without our local community hospitals and partners.β
The planning process involved our newly established CNA/HHA Advisory Committee, comprised of: Donna Dabeck, Northbay Hospital; Tonya Robinson, Casa de Modesto; Alberta Lloyd, SCC; Terri Shook, Medical Sciences/ Vaca SH; Barbara Brock, Navigator Healthcare and Dr. Maurice McKinnon, SCC.
Once the program was approved, Ms. Myra Kargbo, currently an adjunct faculty member at SCC, was hired to serve as the Program Coordinator/Instructor.
Other program instructors are Ms. Joyce Averett, and Ms. Micaela Medina. The Committee is working diligently to revise the CAN/HHA program curriculum this fall to include an acute care component, in order to prepare students for jobs in hospitals.
