Sour Christmas Gift? Free Replacement on Bad Electronics, Major Appliances
California's lemon law applies to much more than cars. Know your rights--and you could get TVs and more replaced for free.
If you buy a new car and it turns out to be a lemon, California law protects you. But you may not know that the lemon law also applies to consumer electronics and electric appliances that cost more than $100. TVs, refrigerators and more are all covered.
Consumer Attorney Kristin Kemnitzer told KPIX, βThe manufacturers donβt necessarily want consumers to know that theyβre entitled to a replacement.β

The law for items that cost more than $100 applies for at least seven years after purchase, whether or not the item is under warranty.
Hereβs how it works--the manufacturer must provide you or your repair shop with replacement parts to fix your product. βIf the manufacturer doesnβt provide you with those parts, then you are entitled to a replacement.β

So if your freezer has stopped freezing, or your TV is shattered--check into fixing it. You may just end up with a free replacement.
