Vacaville Man, 19, Killed In Fairfield Shootout

BREAKING: Following what police believe was a shootout between two vehicles, the 19-year-old was taken to a hospital, where he later died.

SOLANO COUNTY, CA -- A man killed in a shootout between people in two vehicles in Fairfield on Sunday night has been identified by police as 19-year-old Gary Dejuanta Cromwell Jr. of Vacaville. According to Fairfield police, officers responded at about 9:30 p.m. to multiple reports of a shooting between two vehicles in the area of Madison and Broadway streets, then one of the cars crashing near Madison and Delaware streets.

Arriving officers found the crashed vehicle with two people inside, including Cromwell, who was taken to a hospital with gunshot injuries and later died, police said.

Detectives were quickly able to identify suspects in the case and went to a home in the 300 block of Taylor Street, where they detained several people.

Christopher Vanning Johnson, 22, and Jesus Gutierrez Jr., 19, both of Fairfield, were arrested on suspicion of homicide, shooting into a vehicle and carrying a concealed firearm, police said.

Jordan Hendricks, 18, of Vacaville, was a passenger in the car with Cromwell and was arrested on suspicion of possession of a loaded firearm in public, police said.

All three were booked into Solano County jail and four firearms were recovered.

Police are also looking into a possible connection between Sunday's shooting and another one that occurred on Aug. 11 in the 3500 block of Nelson Road in Fairfield.
