Vacaville Man Will Receive 50 Year Sentence For Murder

MENDOCINO COUNTY - A Vacaville man will be sentenced to 50 years to life in prison for the murder of a Mendocino County woman in 2014, the Mendocino County District Attorney's Office said. 

Terrell James Marshall, 46, pleaded no contest Friday to the murder during a rape of 27-year-old Kayla Grace Chesser on Nov. 1, 2014, the District Attorney's Office said.

Jury selection was scheduled to begin Monday in Mendocino County Superior Court.

Marshall, a registered sex offender with prior felony sex assault convictions, admitted to a prior strike felony conviction that doubles his prison time, prosecutors said.

He also waived his appellate rights as part of the plea agreement.

Chesser was found by friends strangled in a Willits home after a Halloween party. 

Marshall was arrested on Nov. 18, 2014 and will be sentenced July 6.
