Weekly Update On Planning For 2020-21 School Reopening - August 14, 2020

In order to keep you informed regarding the 2020-21 school year and the planned reopening in the Distance Learning model, we will continue to publish an update every Friday.

Other recent communications have pointed out that some of the details of our reopening plan were dependent on completing the negotiations process with the Dixon Teachers Association - the union in the District. We are happy to report that we have been able to finalize a Memorandum of Understanding with DTA and are fully implementing it as we speak. There are some parts of the MOU that you should be aware of as you will them carried out very soon.

The MOU language includes this passage that helps to explain the most complex issue that we faced during the negotiations process and what we agreed to in the end:
“In order to ensure high-quality delivery of curriculum, collaboration with colleagues, access to sufficient network bandwidth, reasonable accountability structures, access to all classroom teaching materials, ability to communicate in real-time with support staff, receive assistance from the technology department or other departments as needed, and operate in a safe work environment with limited distraction, all staff will be expected to complete their duties from their assigned school workspace beginning the week of August 24, 2020, through September 18, 2020.”
To simplify this language, teachers will be working from their classrooms for the first month of school for all of the reasons stated in the passage above from the MOU (in italics).

Other components of the agreement that parents and students should know include:

• All staff will be on-duty next week for professional development, training, collaborative planning time, and individual time to prepare for instruction. Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday were not originally on the calendar and have been added through the MOU, at full pay for all staff.
• All teachers other than those who will be provided workplace accommodations to work remotely, will be teaching from their classrooms for the first four weeks of school.
• At the end of the four week period, any teacher who wishes to work remotely will be able to choose that option.
• All staff will have the option to work remotely on Mondays and any other non-student days. These days do not have any direct student-teacher contact, other than the office hours access with teachers.
• All teachers will have seven days at their disposal to be able to use to work remotely if circumstances arise that require them to remain home. These days are not considered sick or personal necessity leave and no time will be deducted from their leave balance.
• Extensive health and safety protocols, and supplies, are in place for all staff with clear guidelines for the precautions to be used while on campus.
• Staff are expected to respond to or reach out to parents in a timely manner regarding student issues. Similarly, parents are expected to respond to outreach from staff when that occurs. Principals will provide assistance in ensuring prompt, two-way communication as needed.
• There is language in the agreement to return to negotiations if conditions change with regard to health orders, or if parts of the MOU need to be revisited or clarified.

We thank the Negotiating Team from the Teachers Association for the many hours that they spent with District negotiators, and the members of the unit who supported the passage of the MOU.

Some other important information to share:

• All students in elementary schools had their teacher assignment and AM or PM schedule information mailed home to them yesterday. Please watch your mail as those letters should be arriving today.
• All students in the secondary schools had their class schedules and other relevant information mailed to them today, so they should receive those tomorrow.
• If you have not received this important mailing for your student by the time your mail is delivered on Monday, please contact the school office for assistance.
• We will be holding two computer distribution sessions next week. Additional details will follow in a separate communication, but the basics are as follows:
• Tuesday, August 18th from 7:30 A.M. to 4:30 P.M.
• Wednesday, August 19th from 11:00 A.M. to 7:00 P.M.
• The distribution will take place at Dixon High School on a drive-thru model.
• Again, additional information will be shared with instructions for how to pick-up devices no later than mid-morning on Monday.
• The importance of email communication is going to be very high this year, so please contact your school office if you have not provided an address to them, or if you are not currently receiving emails from the District.
• We will begin to provide training sessions for parents very soon after we get school started to help you understand and support your child with Google Classroom, Zoom, or other platforms. Please look for this information coming soon.

We appreciate the patience, support, and encouragement that is being shared as we enter the final stages of preparation to begin the school year. You can expect additional information coming from your school sites in addition to the updates that were mentioned in this document.

Actualización Semanal sobre la Planificación para la Reapertura Escolar 2020-21 - 14 de agosto de 2020

Para mantenerlo informado sobre el año escolar 2020-21 y la reapertura prevista en el modelo de Aprendizaje a Distancia, continuaremos publicando una actualización todos los viernes.

Otras comunicaciones recientes han señalado que algunos de los detalles de nuestro plan de reapertura dependían de completar el proceso de negociaciones con la Asociación de Maestros de Dixon, el sindicato del Distrito. Nos complace informar que hemos podido finalizar un Memorando de Entendimiento con la Asociación de Maestros de Dixon y lo estamos implementando completamente mientras hablamos. Otros componentes del acuerdo que los padres y los estudiantes deben conocer incluyen:

El lunes, martes y miércoles no estaban originalmente en el calendario y se agregaron a través del MOU, con pago completo para todo el personal.
