$1K Needed To Help Dublin Boy With Rare Disease In Need Of Bike

L1 Cam Syndrome prevents the teen from being fully mobile, according to his family.

DUBLIN, CA — A fundraiser held in Dublin last weekend raised several thousand dollars to help buy a special bicycle for a Dublin boy who suffers from a rare genetic disease. The "Wheel for Wheels" fundraiser held at Kolb Park was created to help buy 13-year-old Gabriel Peninella a special $6,000 bike so he can explore the world with his father, who is an avid bicyclist.

The Cottonwood Creek student suffers from L1 Cam Syndrome, a rare genetic disease which affects 1 in 30,000 boys. L1 Cam Syndrome prevents Gabriel from being fully mobile, according to his family.

Those who turned out for the walk or ride event raised quite a bit of cash but organizers say they are still $1,000 short of the goal. The fundraiser has been extended for another week. Those who wish to help can click here to donate.
