DUBLIN, CA — Dublin police are warning that they have confiscated over 200 pounds of illegal fireworks this year and are on the lookout for more lawbreakers. Although the city does allow "Safe and Sane" fireworks, officials say there is a zero-tolerance policy for illegal fireworks in Dublin. "Those caught using illegal fireworks will be fined the maximum penalties allowed by state law and could face jail time," according to city officials.

Here are just some of the rules surrounding the sales and use of Safe and Sane fireworks in Dublin:

  • Starting June 28, 13 nonprofit organizations were permitted to sell Safe and Sane fireworks in the city. Sales will end at noon on July 5. (See the list of permitted fireworks vendors.)
  • There are only three designated parks where the use of Safe and Sane fireworks are permitted between the hours of 10 a.m. and 10 p.m. on the 4th of July: Alamo Creek Park, Emerald Glen Park, and Shannon Park.
  • No fireworks of any type (including Safe and Sane) are permitted at Dublin multi-housing units or at any undesignated Dublin park, other city facility, business park or school.
  • Those who plan to use safe and sane fireworks this year should follow these safety tips.
