📰 News we're reading

• Dublin City Council To Review Preliminary Budget (patch.com) — Dublin residents are getting an early look at the city’s new two-year General Fund budget, with revenues projected to outpace expenses but long-term forecasts hinting at possible deficits after 2030. The City Council will review rising costs for public safety contracts, personnel, and benefits, along with modest growth in property and sales tax revenues, at its Tuesday evening meeting.

• University of California tech exec and another East Bay man plead guilty to H-1B visa-fraud conspiracy (mercurynews.com) — Two men from Dublin have pleaded guilty in federal court to conspiring to fraudulently obtain H-1B visas by falsely claiming nonexistent University of California tech jobs. Prosecutors say they used UC affiliations to secure 27 visas, then placed workers at private clients, potentially reducing visa availability for other firms. Sentencing is scheduled for July 30 in Sacramento.

• Los Angeles Times - Powerful California institutions backed Swalwell's rise. Now they're facing questions (consumerwatchdog.org) — Dublin residents may notice their city in statewide headlines as former Dublin city councilman and congressman Eric Swalwell’s once-promising California governor campaign collapsed amid serious misconduct allegations, which he denies. The piece examines how powerful unions, consultants, and Democratic leaders boosted his rise, then quickly distanced themselves, raising questions about political vetting across California.
