DUBLIN, CA — Emerald High School players swept the top three singles finishes at the Bay Valley Athletic League Championships, a significant victory for the two-year-old team competing against long-established teams. This marks the second year in a row Emerald High School swept the podium.
Emerald freshman Aarav Shah captured the championship by defeating fellow Emerald player Gursimran Sachdeva in the championship match 6-4, 0-6, 6-2. Emerald sophomore Dhruv Ram finished third.
Shah advanced through the bracket as the tournament’s No. 1, including a 6-4, 6-0 semifinal victory over a player from Heritage High School.
Shah qualified for the upcoming North Coast Section championships as the league’s top singles representative. Emerald doubles players Arnav Bhatia and Prithvie Jaisankar also qualified for NCS after finishing runner-up in the doubles competition.
