1. Dublin Family Gets Record $36M Settlement In Deputy Double Murder Case (patch.com) — Dublin residents are learning that the family of Benison and Maria Tran, the Dublin couple murdered by former Alameda County Sheriff’s Deputy Devin Williams, will receive a record $36 million settlement from Alameda County. The lawsuit accused the county and deputies of ignoring psychological red flags, mishandling a prior domestic violence call in Dublin, and failing to help Maria obtain a restraining order that might have removed Williams’ gun.
2. San Leandro Police Chief Charged With Hit-and-Run (californiacitynews.org) — San Leandro Police Chief Angela Averiett has been charged with a misdemeanor hit-and-run tied to an alleged sideswipe collision on I-580 in Dublin, where she reportedly left the scene while driving an unmarked police vehicle. Alameda County prosecutors say she was at fault; Averiett disputes knowingly leaving a crash and cites a medical concern, and she is now on administrative leave.
3. DSRSD welcomes new assistant GM, finance director (pleasantonweekly.com) — Dublin’s water and wastewater provider, Dublin San Ramon Services District, has hired a new assistant general manager and finance director to oversee finance, administration, and utility billing for nearly 200,000 customers, including Dublin residents. The leadership changes follow key retirements and are aimed at strengthening long-term planning and reliable, cost-effective service for the Tri-Valley community.
4. Dublin Student Named National Merit Scholar (patch.com) — A Dublin-based National Merit Scholar is bringing some academic prestige close to home: Reese Zhou of nearby Amador Valley High in Pleasanton has earned a $2,500 National Merit Scholarship. Zhou was chosen from more than 15,000 finalists nationwide based on academics, test scores, leadership, recommendations, and essays, with more scholarship winners to be announced through the summer.
5. National Day of Prayer brings messages of hope to the Tri-Valley (pleasantonweekly.com) — A Dublin-based Army chaplain helped open a Tri-Valley National Day of Prayer gathering at the Alameda County Fairgrounds, where leaders from many faiths offered brief prayers for the nation. The interfaith event drew about 300 people and highlighted shared themes of service, justice, hope, and responsibility across Sikh, Hindu, Muslim, Jewish, Christian and other traditions.
