DUBLIN, CA — Dublin will soon join communities around the world in celebrating the International Day of Yoga, a United Nations observance highlighting the physical and mental benefits of yoga. The day has been celebrated annually on June 21 since 2015, after 177 countries co-sponsored a resolution establishing the observance and the United Nations General Assembly adopted it by consensus in 2014.
The Dublin branch of the Art of Living Foundation, an international nonprofit spreading the teachings of spiritual leader Sri Sri Ravi Shankar, is sponsoring a free yoga class that will take place at the outdoor plaza of the Dublin Civic Center on Sunday, June 21 from 9:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. The program will include yoga stretches, breathing techniques, and guided meditation.
“What makes yoga truly powerful is that it goes beyond physical exercise,” said Rajesh Agarwal, the event organizer and a yoga and meditation teacher with The Art of Living Foundation. “Yoga helps calm the mind, reduce stress, and create a deeper sense of connection within ourselves and with the community around us. We are excited to offer this experience free to the broader community.”
“I have been practicing yoga for over 10 years. For me, yoga is a way to refresh and recharge, step away from the stresses of daily life, care for myself, and experience a deep sense of inner peace and calm. I look forward to being part of this event and warmly invite everyone to join — whether you are trying yoga for the very first time or have been practicing regularly for years,” Dublin Mayor Sherry Hu said in a statement.
The event is beginner-friendly and open to all ages. Participants should bring a yoga mat, water bottle, hat, and comfortable clothing.
