DUBLIN, CA — Students who live in or attend school in Dublin are invited to submit original artwork that will be displayed in the inaugural Mayor Sherry Hu's Young Artists Showcase, an exhibition celebrating the creativity and artistic achievements of local K-12 students.
"As Mayor of Dublin and someone who deeply enjoys and appreciates art, I believe art is an international language," Mayor Sherry Hu said in a statement. "It gives us a way to express who we are, how we feel, and how we imagine the world around us. That is the spirit of 'Your Voice, Your Vision." I hope this showcase encourages our young people to find their own voices, use their imagination and creativity, and develop a lifelong appreciation for beauty and artistic expression.'
The exhibition, presented in recognition of National Arts in Education Week, is centered around the theme "Your Voice, Your Vision." Students are encouraged to create work reflecting their interests, experiences, dreams, culture, community, or view of the world. Students are invited to submit original artwork in three divisions: Elementary School (K-5), Middle School (6-8), and High School (9-12.) Entries are welcome in a broad range of media, including painting, drawing, photography, digital art, mixed media, sculpture, ceramics, fiber arts, and other visual art forms.
Selected works will be exhibited at The Frame Company and Art Gallery in Dublin from Sept. 19 through Oct. 3. The community is invited to attend an opening reception on Saturday, Sept. 19 from 4-6 p.m. Awards will include the Mayor's Choice Award, a People's Choice Award, Honorable Mentions, and First, Second, and Third Place.
Entries are due by Friday, Sept. 4. For submission information, contact the Dublin Arts Collective at events@dacarts.org.
